A Typical Day

5:55 a.m.: Wake up five minutes before alarm.

5:56 a.m.: Let dog out. Get a cup of coffee started.

5:57 a.m.: Let dog in. Feed dog and cats.

5:58 a.m.: Let dog out. Stand around waiting for coffee.

6:00 a.m.: Alarm goes off.

6:01 a.m.: Coffee is ready. Sit down and enjoy coffee. Begin responding to work emails.

6:05 a.m.: Let dog in. Begin responding to work chats.

6:15 a.m.: Son's alarm goes off.

6:25 a.m.: Son's alarm goes off again.

6:30 a.m.: Get second cup of coffee started. Yell for son to get up.

6:35 a.m.: Begin second cup of coffee. Son is falling asleep on the couch. Continue responding to work emails and chats.

6:40 a.m.: Son says he's going back to bed. Tell him no.

6:45 a.m.: Stomach complains about coffee, which is only partially drunk. Bathroom break.

6:50 a.m.: Yell at son to get in the shower.

6:55 a.m.: Yell at son to get in the shower.

7:00 a.m.: Son gets in the shower.

7:30 a.m.: Feel pressure to start the day. Yell at son to get out of the shower.

7:35 a.m.: Son gets out of the shower, goes back to bed.

7:45 a.m.: Son's alarm goes off. He gets dressed, gathers his things, and heads out the door to catch the bus.

7:50 a.m.: Take laundry out of dryer, put on bed. Move laundry from washer to dryer. Start a new load in washer, forget to put on delay.

7:55 a.m.: Get into shower. Remember that washer is running instead of on delay.

8:00 a.m.: Finish shower, brush teeth, moisturize, dry hair. Respond to emails and chats that came in while I was in the shower.

8:05 a.m.: Hair is still drying.

8:10 a.m.: Hair is finally dry. Get dressed.

8:15 a.m.: Let dog out. Get third cup of coffee started. Heat up breakfast if I remembered to prepare something ahead of time; otherwise, pour bowl of cereal. Remember that I'm out of milk.

8:20 a.m.: Login to computer. Continue responding to emails and chats.

8:25 a.m.: Let dog in. Grab coffee.

8:30 a.m.: Continue responding to emails. Get some work done.

9:00 a.m.: First meeting of the day. Play solitaire on phone when I'm not on screen.

9:30 a.m.: Next meeting.

10:00 a.m.: Next meeting.

11:00 a.m.: Next meeting.

11:55 a.m.: Meeting ended early. Bathroom break.

12:00 p.m.: Next meeting.

12:30 p.m.: Next meeting.

12:55 p.m.: Meeting ended early. Heat up leftovers for lunch.

1:00 p.m.: Next meeting.

1:30 p.m.: Meeting was cancelled. Get some work done.

2:00 p.m.: Next meeting.

2:30 p.m.: Next meeting.

2:55 p.m.: Meeting ended early. Bathroom break.

3:00 p.m.: Get some work done.

3:20 p.m.: Dog thinks it's dinner time, begins to pace and nudge me.

3:45 p.m.: Son comes home from school. Review homework and make sure it gets done.

4:00 p.m.: Someone pings me, asks if I can meet.

4:15 p.m.: Get some work done.

4:20 p.m.: Dog starts whining. Kick him out of office.

4:30 p.m.: Remind son to do chores and homework.

4:45 p.m.: Get fed up and call it a day. Let dog out.

4:50 p.m.: Start on dinner. Realize I didn't thaw out anything, come up with alternative meal idea. Let dog in.

4:55 p.m.: Remind son to practice piano.

5:00 p.m.: Son feeds dog and cats. Let dog out.

5:10 p.m.: Let dog in.

5:15 p.m.: Dinner is served! Turn on TV and eat.

5:30 p.m.: Yell at son for swearing at videogame.

5:35 p.m.: Pack up leftovers. Wash pots and pans.

5:45 p.m.–8:25 p.m.: Free time! Try to relax.

5:55 p.m.: Let dog out.

6:15 p.m.: Let dog in.

6:30 p.m.: Tell dog to stop barking.

6:35 p.m.: Tell dog to stop barking.

6:40 p.m.: Tell dog to stop barking. Let dog out.

7:00 p.m.: Let dog in.

8:25 p.m.: Remind son of piano lesson starting in five minutes.

9:00 p.m.–9:15 p.m.: Spend time with son.

9:15 p.m.: Let dog out.

9:30 p.m.: Let dog in. Get ready for bed.

9:45 p.m.–10:30 p.m.: Play on phone from bed.

10:30 p.m.: Fall asleep while playing on phone.
